4 Smart Invisalign Habits to Adopt Immediately

Invisalign habits Philadelphia orthodontistsWhenever you decide to invest in Invisalign for yourself or Invisalign Teen for your adolescent, adopting good habits makes the treatment much easier to manage and tolerate. Invisalign doesn’t take a lot of work – after all, the trays are in your mouth for 20 to 22 hours a day and all you need to do is wear them. But your choices and behavior impact whether treatment is successful, easy, and comfortable.

1. Switch Your Trays at Night

Every two weeks or so, you’ll be instructed to switch out your current Invisalign trays for the next set. Do yourself a favor and make the change at bedtime. This allows the new movements of your teeth to begin while you’re asleep, saving you from the initial pressure. Making this choice also keeps the trays in your mouth for a solid block of consistent wear which is great for successful movement.

2. Make Your Case Your Best Friend

If you could carry your best friend in your pocket to be with you all the time, most people would. When it comes to Invisalign, think of your case as your BFF. That case is the safest place for your aligners to be when they’re not in your mouth – in fact, they’re the only place for the trays to be when you’re not wearing them. A case is noticeable so you’re unlikely to forget it on the table at a meal, and you won’t be tempted to wrap your aligners in a napkin or stick them in your pocket where they could be thrown away or damaged.

3. Set a Timer for Everything

If you’re like most people, you don’t go far without your cell phone. Make good use of the timer capability and set it every time you take your Invisalign trays out of your mouth. They should not be separated from your teeth for more than four hours a day, but ideally the time is much less than that. Because it’s easy to lose track of time during a meal with friends or family, setting a timer on your phone – 30 minutes is reasonable – means you won’t lose treatment time but can still enjoy a braces-free meal.

4. Adopt Positivity

Your personality may not have you leaning in the direction of optimism, but do your best to stay positive when it comes to Invisalign. You only wear the aligners for about a year – and some people need even less time to complete their alignment – which is almost half the time wearers of conventional brackets and wires must put in. If you’re positive about treatment, follow the rules, wear the trays and take care of them as instructed, you will come out on top.
